The show will be orchestrated by 7 barges stationed along the East River that will release upwards of 75,000 shells and special effects. The New York Fire Department also will take part in the celebration by shooting red, clear and blue water upwards of 300 feet into the air. Though lasting a mere 30 minutes, the annual Macy’s July 4th Fireworks Show takes nearly a year to create – the fireworks and music are synchronized to perfection.
But don’t just take our word for it – check it out for yourself! Here are some of the best viewing spots for this year’s 2018 Macy’s July 4th Fireworks Show:
Manhattan’s FDR Drive between Houston Street and Midtown East
The FDR Drive will have entry points at Houston, 23rd, 34th and 42nd Streets. Access to the highway will open at approximately 7pm.
John V. Lindsay East River Park
This 57 acre NYC park has never been listed as an official viewing destination but New Yorkers frequently gather here every Independence Day.
Williamsburg, Greenpoint
One of the projected best viewing locations, you’re sure to get a good view from the Brooklyn waterfront.
Queen’s Waterfront Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City
Another unofficial viewing destination, this is a great option for New Yorkers living in Queens.
Access for People with Disabilities
If you’re an elderly person or person with disabilities, Macy’s is committed to providing you with an accessible viewing spot as well. This year, Macy’s’ will have designated areas for viewers with special needs. Via FDR Drive, these points will be at 16th street and Avenue C as well as at the top of the ramp at 34th st in Manhattan. In Queens, enter Center Boulevard from 48th to 49th Avenues for your view.
And of course, if you’re not up for the crowds, you can always access a live, completely unobstructed view via NBC from the comfort of your home.
If you’re looking for something amazing to do the day of, there’s nothing like a bird’s eye view of New York City on a HeliNY helicopter tour.
You can take the New Yorker Tour, the Ultimate Tour, or the Deluxe Tour – all of which will provide you with stunning views of the city from above!
Ditch the hot-dogs this 4th of July and try something different.
