What to Know If You’ve Never Been on a Helicopter

booking a helicopter nyFlying on a helicopter can be an exciting experience. If you have never taken a helicopter tour or charter before, there are some things you should know to make your flight as safe and comfortable as possible.
  • Dress appropriately for your flight. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt or jacket, a coat and gloves in the winter, and secure shoes. Do not wear a hat, visor, scarf, bandana, sandals, or flip flops or carry a large bag or purse.

  • Arrive at the heliport early to check in and find out where to go for your tour or charter.

  • Approach and exit the helicopter with caution and only when told to do so. Keep your head down.

  • Sit in your assigned seat. The pilot will decide where passengers should sit to distribute weight evenly throughout the helicopter. This is important for safety reasons.

  • Follow any instructions from the pilot before, during, and after the flight. The pilot’s job is to keep you safe. He or she will explain safety procedures and tell you what to do in the event of an emergency.

  • If you experience motion sickness, consider bringing along medication. You can take anti-anxiety mediation prescribed by a doctor if you have a fear of flying. You can also listen to music during the flight to help you relax.

  • Flying is generally safe. The helicopters in our fleet are equipped with many safety features, and our pilots are well trained and highly qualified to deal with many types of weather and a variety of emergency situations that might arise.
